Q : Can you please give me your opinion about the optimum humidity
degree in a personal humidor. (Robert S., CANADA. 11/97)
A : It is said that a very high degree of humidity is required
(about 80%), but I think that it is too much for a personal humidor.
Many cigar merchants keep the humidity at this level in their
own cigar rooms, but they have their reasons : the cigars are
boxed, some boxes are varnished, and once sold the cigars might
not be transfered immediately into another humidor.
Personally, I think that the best way is to have a cigar room
and a humidor, or two humidors : one for storing cigars in their
original boxes (75% humidity; keep varnished boxes half-open),
and the other for cigars that you will light up in the next 15-20
days (between 65 and 70% humidity).
This is my method for storing cigars. Because each one of us is
different, you must find your own ideal humidity degree to use
in your second humidor.
Q : For the subscriptions is it possible to substitute a particular
box for another? For example, in the Cohiba subscription, could
I receive a box of Montecristo Torpedos instead of one of the
Cohiba sizes that I didn't particularly like?
Or, better yet, could I put together a special subscription of,
say, four boxes of any of your featured brands and have you calculate
a price for me? I realize that there would have to be a price
increase in such a case. Your subscription service is very exciting
for me because even though I live in Norway and can get Cubans
delivered to me, they always arrive in a terrible state; all dried
out, usually. What steps do you take, if any, to keep the product
moist when you ship ?

Q : I note your catalogue and subscription prices and I am interested
in making an order. However is tax in my country, Hong Kong, included
or would I have to pay a dutiable commodities tax on top of that?
(Neil, Hong Kong 03/98)
A : We are allowed to send cigars to our members all around the
world except to the USA (due to the embargo against Cuba). We
are a club and not a cigar shop. That's why you don't have to
pay local tax on the cigars your receive. The boxes we send are
labeled: "Offered by Cigars of Cuba Club, Not For Sale, For personal
use only" The fees you pay are considered as a participation in
the club; so in exchange we send you the cigars for tasting. You
may choose any Cuban hand rolled cigars to compose your own membership
category. Our vocation is to let you discover those fine cigars.
