Cuaba:
An Encounter with the Past. The Cuaba was introduced in
London in November 1996. Cuaba is a word coming from the
Taino Indians describing a special kind of bush which burns
very well. All the Cuaba : Exclusivos, Generosos,
Tradicionales and Divinos belong to the figurado category
(perfecto for many other experts).
Theses shapes were the most popular in the world until the
beginning of the century. Habanos S.A. have decided to
revive this old British tradition of smoking figurado. Cuaba
is the first new Cuban brand launched since 1968. In the
framework of a new marketing strategy, many other new Cuban
brands or formats have been or will be introduced into the
market (The Vegas Robaina at Barcelona in june 1997, the
Trinidad is expected in February 1998, and the Cohiba
Torpedo at the end of this year).
All Cuabas are " Totalemente a mano "
and made under the supervision of Master Roller Carlos
Izquierdo Gonzalez. They are presented in traditional boxes
of 25 cigars. The boxes we have tasted were manufactured at
the Romeo y Julieta factory (BM).
Don't be surprised if two Cuabas of the same box have not
exactly the same shape. It's due to the manufacturing
procedure. We noticed this while observing a Cuaba roller at
work. Experts at La Casa del Habano told us that these
shapes are very difficult to make. |
