Cohiba's linea 1492 is a permanent tribute by the Havana
to the 5th Centennial of the discovery of tobacco. It
comprises five shapes whose names -( Siglo I, Siglo II,
Siglo III, Siglo IV and Siglo V)- correspond to the five
centuries that have elapsed since them. Linea 1492 is the
latest addition to the Cohiba family - the Piramides will be
introduced in February 1999-.
General features of Linea 1492.
The Linea 1492 cigar
types, like all Cohibas, are manufactured with tobacco
leaves grown exclusively in the tobacco plantations in
Vuelta Abajo, the best plantations in Cuba, and harvested
following the most rigorous selection criteria, exclusive to
Cohiba. The leaves are hung to dry in the tobacco houses on
the plantations and then taken to the factory. There, in
addition to the two customary fermentation of tobacco
leaves, Cohiba undergo a special third fermentation
conceived to achieve a substantial reduction in tar and
residual ammonia as well as the dense nicotine masses. With
this procedure, the result is a finer cigar. Cigars of the
Linea 1492 are rolled exclusively in top Havana cigars
factories. Wrapper colors of linea 1492, chosen from among
the 80 different classified shades for Cohiba, are basically
the following: brown, light brown, very light brown and
golden brown. The fine Linea 1492 types are presented in
Varnished Cedar boxes with top sliding cover, containing 25
cigars tied in a bundle, and in 3 or 5 cigar cases, with
each cigar protected by a cellophane slip and an individual
cardboard sheath. The dimensions of Linea 1492 cigars cover
the complete Cohiba range, to include sizes currently in
demand.
